Teeth whitening
Short answer
Whitening uses safe bleaching gels to lighten tooth color. It does not fix cavities or damaged teeth.
Simple explanation
Whitening can be done in-office in about an hour, or with custom trays at home over 1–2 weeks. Some sensitivity for a few days is normal. Results vary from person to person.
When this usually matters
It is cosmetic — check for cavities and gum health first.
When to seek dental help
Extreme sensitivity, uneven whitening, or dark spots after whitening should be evaluated.
Questions to ask your dentist
- •Am I a good candidate?
- •How white can I realistically expect?
- •How long will it last?
This is simple educational information. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace a dental examination. Your dentist may recommend something different depending on your mouth, X-rays, pain, infection, gums, bone, medical history, and clinical judgment.
